The Swiss Market Index, also known as the SMI, is a major stock market index that measures the fortunes of the 20 largest and most liquid stocks on the Swiss Exchange. It is a free-float, capitalization-weighted index covering roughly 85% of the Swiss equity market. It was founded in 1988 and its composition is re-appraised once a year. The SMI is calculated in Swiss francs.
