McDonald’s Corporation is an American fast-food chain founded in 1940 by brothers Maurice and Richard McDonald in San Bernardino, California. The company is synonymous around the world for its signature hamburgers, known as Big Macs. McDonald’s is headquartered in Chicago. The first ever McDonald’s restaurant was a drive-in that offered a wide selection of items. However, in 1948, the founding brothers revamped the business as a hamburger joint that could be franchised. The company’s famous logo, consisting of Golden Arches, was introduced in 1953. Today, McDonald's is the world's largest restaurant chain by revenue, serving as many as 70 million customers a day in over 100 countries. With over 40,000 branches around the world, the company earns significant revenues from the rent, royalties, and fees paid by the franchisees, notwithstanding the profits from its own in-store operations.
