General Electric Company (GE) is an American multinational technology and financial services company. Founded in 1892 by Thomas Alva Edison, GE is incorporated in New York state and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. Its operations are arranged into the following divisions: Power, Renewable Energy, Aviation, Healthcare, and Capital. GE is also active in additional areas such as venture capital and finance. The firm has been consistently ranked among the top 50 of the list of Fortune 500 largest firms in the US by revenue. GE has a long history of technological innovation, with two of its employees, Irving Langmuir in 1932 and Ivar Giaever in 1973, having been awarded the Nobel Prize. According to a company announcement in 2021, GE intended to demerge into three investment-grade public companies. The brand names were unveiled as GE Aerospace, GE HealthCare and GE Vernova. The company would retain its capital segment that leases and finances aircraft, aircraft engines and helicopters, and also provides financial and underwriting solutions.
