The DAX – also known as the Deutscher Aktien Index or the GER40 – is a stock index that represents 40 of the biggest German firms on the Frankfurt Exchange, which is the largest of Germany’s seven stock exchanges, and the 12th largest stock exchange in the world. The DAX was created in 1988. The index historically comprised 30 companies, but was expanded to 40 as of September 3, 2021. The index is one of the most-traded indices in the world and compares favorably with the UK100 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
